It started with Snapchat. Snapchat stories was the first product that brought the Stories format to prominence. Then the floodgates opened when Facebook decided to adopt the format and add it to Instagram. Then Whatsapp, Messenger, and the latest addition, Facebook. It’s not a great leap of faith to expect a standalone product from Facebook focused on the Stories format to be launched soon.

So why has the Stories format been so popular and widely adopted? Whilst the quick roll out of the stories format to Facebook/Messenger/WhatsApp has been subject to a light ribbing on social media, Stories is quickly becoming the most interesting content and product discovery formats today.
